This webinar will provide a step-by-step guide to build your online publication. Whether it’s an indie magazine, a personal passion project or an editorial extension to your brand, you’ll receive practical tools for launching your publication and growing its presence over time. You’ll be led through essential initial steps such as finding your editorial voice, identifying your audience, connecting with contributors, branding and social media, funding and events. You’ll get the chance to workshop an elevator pitch of your project and be provided with additional take-home materials on the topic. You’ll also learn how to build a toolkit to support the administrative work that comes with running a magazine. This includes Google Suite for editing pieces and organizing visual assets, Notion as a magazine database/productivity tool, Slack for team communication, Later for social media planning and issue workback templates.

Sennah Yee (left) is from Toronto, where she writes poetry, prose and film criticism. She is the author of the poetry collection How Do I Look? (Metatron Press), and the children’s books My Day With Gong Gong (Annick Press, Blue Spruce Award Nominee) and Lin’s Lucky Red Envelope (Holt Renfrew commission). She is the former arts editor at Shameless Magazine and a former poetry editor at Peach Mag, and is currently the managing editor of the pop culture journal In The Mood Magazine.
Gabrielle Marceau (right) is a writer, editor and teacher living in Toronto. She has a master’s in cinema studies from the University of Toronto and has contributed essays and criticism to Sight and Sound magazine, MUBI Notebook, Cinema Scope, Reverse Shot and Jane magazine among others. She teaches cinema studies as continuing education for The LIFE Institute in Toronto. She is the former reviews editor for Shameless Magazine, and she is the editor in chief of In The Mood Magazine, a triannual pop culture journal.
