What a Fiction Editor Actually Does covers what you can expect from a fiction editor, including the difference between editors and beta readers, the way an editor works with a manuscript, the kinds of problems an editor will help you solve, and what specific knowledge a fiction editor brings to the table. We’ll also look at the different editing ‘stages’ and how they pertain specifically to fiction, including short examples of each stage and tips on how to get the most out of your editing process.
Getting Fiction Edited is about how you, as the author, take a work from an untouched first draft to wholly revised finished project. We’ll start with how to self-assess what stage of editing your manuscript needs, and continue through balancing an editing budget. This course will also teach you how to look for an experienced editor, what experience to look for, how to spot warning signs, how to find an editor that is right for you, and what to expect from a contract.

Julie Kay-Wallace is an experienced freelance editor, who specializes in editing fiction. In her years as an editor, she has worked with both agents and publishers and she frequently works with authors pursuing both traditional and self-publishing routes. As a lover of language and good stories, one of her favourite parts of editing is helping her clients push their story to the greatness it deserves.
